Ingredients

For the smoothie bowl

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 cup frozen strawberries or mixed berries
  • ½ cup plain yogurt or unsweetened plant-based yogurt
  • ¼ cup milk or plant-based milk
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons Saafara Hibiscus Powder du Sénégal
  • 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup, optional
  • A squeeze of fresh orange or lemon juice

For the toppings

  • Fresh sliced strawberries
  • Sliced banana
  • Fresh mint leaves
  • Chia seeds
  • Chopped walnuts or almonds
  • Unsweetened coconut flakes
  • A light sprinkle of Saafara Hibiscus Powder
  • Fresh orange slices, optional

Preparation

  1. Add the frozen banana, berries, yogurt, milk, hibiscus powder, and citrus juice to a blender. Blend until thick and creamy. Use only enough liquid to keep the mixture moving. The texture should be thick enough to eat with a spoon.
  2. Taste and add honey or maple syrup if you prefer a sweeter bowl.
  3. Pour into a serving bowl and arrange the strawberries, banana, mint, chia seeds, nuts, and coconut over the top. Finish with a very light dusting of hibiscus powder for extra color and tartness.
  4. Serve immediately.

Saafara Kitchen Tip

For a deeper hibiscus flavor, start with one teaspoon of Hibiscus Powder and add more to taste. Its naturally tart character pairs especially well with strawberries, raspberries, citrus, mango, banana, and coconut.

You can also turn the same recipe into a drinkable smoothie by adding an additional ½ to 1 cup of milk or plant-based milk.
