Baobab Fruit with Seeds
Scientific name: Adansonia digitata
Baobab fruit with seeds from Senegal comes from Africa’s legendary Tree of Life and naturally dries on the branch. Inside its hard shell is a pleasantly tangy, citrus-flavored pulp surrounding the seeds. Unlike finely milled baobab powder, this traditional form retains the fruit pulp around the whole seeds.
The pulp has a naturally tart and refreshing flavor. It can be soaked in room-temperature or cold water, then mixed and strained to prepare a traditional baobab drink. It may also be blended with milk, plant-based milk, smoothies, yogurt, or peanut butter. Add sugar or your preferred sweetener according to taste.
The seeds can be separated after soaking. Traditionally, they may also be roasted, ground, or pressed to produce baobab seed oil. This makes the product a versatile choice for customers who prefer baobab in a less processed form.
How to Prepare
Place the desired amount of fruit and seeds in a bowl or pitcher. Add water and allow it to soak until the pulp softens. Mix thoroughly by hand, whisk, or blender, then strain to remove the seeds and fibers. Sweeten as desired and serve chilled.
